Holy Basil- Krishna

Commonly known as tulsi, meaning 'beyond compare' in Sanskrit, this herb belongs to the mint family and has been honoured for thousands of years in India as one of the most sacred and useful plants. There are 3 different types of holy basil known as Rama, Krishna and Vana. The Krishna variety has a crisp, slightly peppery flavour. 

Krishna (Ocimum tenuiflorum) is known for its peppery crisp taste. The plant has dark green to purple leaves, stems, and blossoms. It is cultivated in the Indian plains, as well as private homes and gardens around India, and is named after the blue skinned God as the dark purple leaves resemble this color.

Enjoy as a warm or cold tea. Add 1 tsp or more per cup of water. Steep 2-5 min in a covered pot. Strain. Avoid over steeping to preserve the high volatile oil content.
